Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland, Australia and is located in the south-east corner of the state.

Brisbane's latitude is 27 degrees 28' south, longitude 153 degrees 2' east. Brisbane is about 450km south of the Tropic of Capricorn — as far south of the equator as Tampa, Florida is north.

Brisbane's first white settlers arrived in May 1825. Aboriginal people have been living here for at least 40,000 years.

Queensland occupies an area of 1,727,200 square kilometres, or about seven times the area of the UK. Several different climates exist, from the dry outback in the west, to the tropical far north, to the cooler subtropical climate of Brisbane. Here are some facts about Brisbane:

"Greater" Brisbane has a population of about 1.5 million. Its population density is low relative to other world urban areas of similar population.

The subtropical climate allows outdoor leisure all year round. The average temperature in summer is 20-29C. In winter it is 10-21C. Every year we get around 1000 mm of rain over 122 raindays.
